Reading CAFE
Cafe is an acronym for the components of effective reading.
Comprehension, Accuracy, Fluency, and Expanding Vocabulary.
Each day the students experience reading in 5 different ways. They read by themselves, they read to a partner, they listen to someone read, they write, and the practice word study. These activities provide them with relevant and rigorous reading to promote their potential. This page will be full of resources, ideas, and tools to help you read, read, read!

Researchers have found that boys are drawn to books with these characteristics:
- Focused on plot, not drama and emotions;
- Visually appealing, for example, magazines and graphic novels;
- Practical, with information boys can use;
- Main characters boys can easily relate to;
- Funny, with elements of mischief and slapstick.

Audio Owl
Listening to stories is a great way to build comprehension. Find books on MP3 and Podcast files to download and listen to. Be sure to check the level on Book Wizard (below) to find good fit books. When listening to books you can choose books that are above your independent level to challenge your comprehension!
Good Fit Books
It is not comfortable to wear clothes or shoes that are too big or too small. Well, the same is true for the books you choose to read. Books that are too small will not challenge you or help you grow into a stronger reader. Books that are too big will be frustrating or you may not enjoy reading them because you don't understand.
